J&P Turner Limited was formed in 1994 by brothers Jeffery & Peter Turner and today is the parent company for the Group's various marketing initiatives in fruit, vegetables & flowers, both within New Zealand and internationally.
Jeffery & Peter's great-grandfather Edward Turner set up Turners Mart (later to become Turners and Growers) in the 1890s, after he emigrated from England to NZ, but the family's involvement in the produce industry can be traced back in Cambridge (England) to the 1600s, long before New Zealand was a twinkle in Capt James Cook's eyes...
In 1995, after the control & direction of the old family firm was taken over by offshore investors, some of the family decided to do the "Kiwi thing" and start all over again. So Fresh Direct was established, with a small start from home in Mt Albert...
There has been growth since then, adding Fresh Direct Floral, Purefresh Organic, Turners Global Marketing, Fresh Retail Solutions and JP Exports, but it's still about the same key things - great people, great product and great systems & controls. Like any worthwhile enterprise, hard work, integrity, excellent service and consistent good results for all our stakeholders, underpin and envelope our very culture.
